Finally it’s here, the Wiko Wax! Since this first Nvidia Tegra 4i smart-phone was announced in February 2014, I kept receiving question like „when ill it be available?“, „will it really get available?“ and so on – and now I can finally unbox it and get a first hands-on experience – and of course I’d like to share that with you:
The first impression is quite nice: A taken-back simplistic design with that thin shiny chrome line at the lower end as the only decoration and a comfortable feeling soft-touch back. When pressing the sides though, you can heat some noises and clearly feel the plastic frame around the display bend.
The performance while swiping through home-screens, app drawer or menus is absolutely fluid – but actually anything else would have been quite a disappointment for this CPU. There are only few additional pre-installed apps on this phone – torch light, file manager and the „Tegra Zone“, an app intending to promote Tegra optimized apps (usually games). As we expect the Wax to be a nice gaming machine, it is somewhat sad that there is not impressing game pre-installed.
On my device, the sticker beneath the battery indicated a wrong orientation for the SIM card (see green arrow on the picture) – but I heard from others where this sticker looked quite different and was correct. So maybe this is just a quirk of my early test unit.
So let’s start the testing and benchmarking now!
What do you think of the Wiko Wax?
